Does anyone know if John Mayes DVDs are video or still pics with audio?

I've got to get caught up on my video buying....

John's are video. Very good. Hope he does a neck one soon. Take Robbie's, Johns and others along with books and seminars and can build. Heck I went to school, have built some, and will from now on, get what I can to further education. You get alot of information, maybe different styles and then use them how you need for your own. I was on another forum(a players one Lance may remember) and one guy was convienced that from his talks with Luthier via internet(some from here I know he took completly out of context or just didn't know what he was talking about) stated there is only one procedure in all of the building of a guitar and to do something different made it impossible to make a good guitar. That was the gest of his comments anyway. He even implied Lance had no knowledge of building or what he was talking about. I use all the information and help I can get. I need it. I may end up doing something same, completly different or most usual a combination of several things until I get a way I want to do it that works for me. Any videos from this forum are top notch and worth any funds

John's DVD's are video. However, you must buy many dvd's to get the whole guitar building process completed. He only has rims, top & backs, bending sides, and voicing part I & II. So you cannot complete a guitar with his videos YET, but eventually you will be able to. I highly recommend getting both videos, as these are 2 different building methods, and both are packed with information.

yep mine are actual video. Great to see something happening, but the
drawback is to cover everything in depth in high quality video/audio I
cannot fit it all onto one DVD.

I have a discount going on still at mayesmusic.com enter LFD into the
coupon section and get 10% off.

One thing that is kind of cool is to learn something in a book and then research it on the web and find out that the guy who wrote the book isn't doing it that way anymore.

I think John's videos are great too. Definitely something wrong with that guy though

When it comes to guitar building or woodworking), despite what my wife says, I don't think you can ever have too many books, videos, tools or wood.

I debated for a long time what the best format would be for this project: Video or still shots. I came to the same conclusion as John. To do high quality video takes up so much memory on a computer and DVD disc that I would be limited in the amount of video and information I could put in the project. I opted for the still shots because with a good quality picture (over 1400 on each of my DVD's) and 3 and 1/2 hours of audio to explain them I could go more in depth and convey more information. I try and make it clear in both DVD's that the techniques and methods I am showing are ones that have worked for me. They may not be the only or best way and I expect that many on this forum will even come up with better ways of doing things. This is my objective to introduce people to guitar building and help them realize that anyone that sets their mind to it can do this. All it takes is a little dedication a few swear words and a can of whoop ass. Just as a pen doesn't make a good journalist, All of the books, videos, tools etc in the world will not make a person a guitar builder unless they apply what they have learned. To see something done is worth hearing about it 100 times. To do it is worth seeing it 100 times. Now go do!

I think it is great that guys like John and Robbie have taken the time and harnessed the technology to bring these type of learning tools to the rest of us.

I just looked at John's site and he has a package deal for all of the videos that he has done so far. May call him up and see if I can just drop by and pick some up.

I think I'll also order Robbie's classical and the steel string versio when it comes out. Sometimes I just don't feel like going to the shop and sitting down with one of these videos kind of gets my blood pumping again.

Thanks for the info guys.
